Kindergarten Heart Paintings

Kindergarten students brainstormed what they thought of when they saw a picture of a heart. Students listed things like love, Valentines Day, family, and candy. One student even said "My mom and dad hug me and my heart grows bigger".... How sweet!! Then we looked at the work of Picasso and discussed how artists expressed their feelings by using color in their work- children looked at Picasso's blue period and rose period. Children were given a palette of warm colors, plus white, and mixed tints to paint giant heart designs. The results were as varied and lovely as their artists!! 5th grade Light and Shadow paintings

Students looked at the dramatic shadows in the artwork of Goya. We discussed light sources, highlights an shadows. Then kids began painting with black, white and shades of gray to create their own shaded paintings. Check back for finished results soon! Thanks to " dali's moustache" for the great idea!!

Snowmen At Night

First graders read the book Snowmen At Night and brainstormed ideas of what they would do at night if they were snowmen. They illustrated their ideas in art and then wrote about them in their classroom. Their illustrations showed snowmen sledding, skating, drinking hot cocoa, and giving Valentines.... This collaborative art and writing project was lots if fun!!

Today kindergarten students started creating heart shaped pinch pots. 5 th graders began sculpting "heads" from clay. Our kiln is working again so it was great to get our hands dirty with some clay today!!

3rd Grade Environments

3rd graders created their own real or imaginary environments by using a "tri-rama" folded square. Students needed to make sure that their work included a foreground, middle ground and background. The results were all different and lots of fun to view!!!

Picasso Inspired Guitar Collages

3rd graders created unique guitar collages after studying Picasso and looking at photos of real guitars.

If You're a Monster and You Know It....

We read the "sing along" book, "If you're a monster an you know it" then students designed their own brightly colored collage monsters and "illustrated" action words to describe their creations!

James Rizzi inspired artwork

Got these fun ideas from deepspacesparkle. James Rizzi's colorful and playful artwork inspired 2nd,4th and 5 th grade students as they created paintings of birds, buildings with "character" and cities that were alive!

5th grade cityscape prints

Fifth graders painted watercolor warm skies and cool water backgrounds. Then they designed and carved printing plates of cityscapes. They printed cityscapes on the warm halves of their paintings then created a mirror image print by folding and printing into the cool painted water. The results are some beautiful reflections!

Fall artwork- better late than never!!

This fall kindergarteners created self portraits popping up from a collage pile of warm colored leaves. First graders made self portraits swinging from tire swings.

2nd grade close up snowmen

Students painted a close up view of a snowman then used oil pastels to add details. The snowmen are as unique as their artists!!

4th & 5th grade printed snowflakes

Students used found objects dipped in cool colors to print snowflakes. Students made sure their prints had radial symmetry.

Students practiced compositional skills to arrange and draw fall leaves. Leaf contours were traced with glue, then 5th graders blended chalks to add color.

Glazing 2nd grade clay owls

2nd graders created clay owls by pressing red clay into slabs, folding and pinching it into an owl, then adding texture for the feathers.
